Remembering 9/11/01

I just wanted to give my family a little shot and tell them how much I love each and everyone of you. I don't know if you all know but My mom, aunt Traci, Grandma Grammi J, cousins Chandler and Corbin, my sisters Kylee and Kenzi and I were in New York on Sept. 11, 2001. Before the terrorist attack it had been a great trip we had been there for a week and were headed home that morning (9/11) I'll give you a little insight just for all of you that would like to know: On Sept 10 the night before my family and I were out sight seeing, one of the stops we were going to see was the twin towers. After along day of seeing things and trying to figure out there subways (which was impossible) we had taken the wrong one. So we were deciding if we should call it a night and go to the twin towers then next morning before leaving. We well all decided that we had gone this far we might as well go and try to see them. We arrived at the twin towers around 9 p.m. the guard almost didn't let us up but we begged and he did. We were some of the last visitors up in the twin towers. There was only about 10 other people up there with us. It was amazing! The view was breath taking. I remember the clouds would come by and cover the window. It was crazy how high we were. After walking around and learning some new things about New York and the towers we headed back down. I still remember looking up at them from the bottom and thinking how amazing it was. I wish I would have taken a picture but unfortunately I didn't. So the next morning my mom, aunt, cousins, sisters, and I had went down for breakfast we were all in our flying clothes ready to go to the airport. We had left my grandma back at the hotel to get ready. While we were waiting for our breakfast the guy that worked there kept turning up the radio so it was so loud. We couldn't figure out why and were started to get upset. Well then we noticed in the streets that everyone was running. So we asked what was going on and he told us that a plane and struck the twin towers. We of course dropped everything and ran back to the hotel which was 40 blocks from the twin tower. From the street we could see smoke. When we returned to the hotel we had to run up I believe it was 20 floors because they had turned the elevators off or we didn't feel comfortable riding in them (I can't remember) It was along 20 flights that's for sure and I was doing it in heels (which I ended up taking off after 10 or so flights) but anyways by the time we got to my grandma's room the second plane had hit and grammi said she saw it on the T.V. We were so scared trying to figure out what was going on and what we were going to do. while we were watching it all on T.V. we saw the first building fall. After a little while a couple of us went down the street and took some pictures as the second building fell. It was so creepy! I remember that every time a plane flew overhead EVERYONE stopped on the streets to look up and see if we were getting attacked again. I also remember that we were trying to get a hold of people home to let my dad, uncle, sister, and grandpa know we were ok. (because we fly no rev. so we could have been on one of the flights if we had decided to leave earlier that morning. Creepy I know!) I remember when we got home my dad told us about when they found out also. My dad and uncle had been hunting so of course no radio's, no phone, no T.V. One of the guys there were hunting with found them on the four wheelers and told them that the twin towers had been hit my plane. My dad and uncle said that was the longest 45 mins. of there life trying to get down the mountain to where they could get phone service. This all happen Tuesday which I'm sure you all remember and we didn't end up getting home until Sunday. Luckily we had not checked out of our hotel so we stayed there for a few more nights. We then took a train to Connecticut on Friday were we stayed with some of my grandma's friends. Saturday we took a flight from Connecticut to Cincinnati stayed over night there and then flew to Las Vegas were my dad and uncle came to pick us up. I will say I was quiet the emotional one at the time. After it happened I told my mom "I WAS NOT FLYING" but she told me there was no other way to get home. I was still determined I was not flying until I talked to my dad and he told me I was going to be fine! I guess I am kind of a daddy's girl because I did feel a little bit better. I'm sure there is a lot more but every year I remember that trip and thank my lucky stars that god and his guardian angels were looking after us and got us home safe! I wouldn't have gotten through it without my family especially my mom. She was a rock for us, I'm sure she was scared to death those days trying to get her, her sister, her mom, nephews, and daughters home!! I love you mom and couldn't have asked for a better one. :) Another cool thing about this date or well I guess 9/10 is that Jeremy was in the Navy and was released on Sept. 10, 2001 THE DAY BEFORE!!!! I didn't know him at the time but I thank god everyday for him getting released. He was driving through Washington D.C. on 9/11 with his dad. All I can says is there is a god and I do believe in guardian angels!

It was very interesting to hear your thoughts from that dreadful day in history. I am glad that as a family we are able to look back and be thankful for our outcome and yet so sorry for all of the many families that weren't so lucky. I love you very much and am thrilled to have watched you grow into such a mature and responsible young woman. You deserve the best in life and all that comes with it. Love Mom
